Dr. Augustinus Bader changed the game for burn victims back in 2007. The Professor of Applied Stem Cell Biology developed an innovative hydrogel that promoted skin regeneration. This allowed victims to forgo the ‘traditional’ skin graft route previously required to repair burned skin. Crucially, the new treatment left people entirely unscarred. When the company’s now CEO Charles Rosier first met Professor Bader he was shown a picture of a three-year-old girl scheduled for a skin graft. The university hospital had used the gel Prof. Bader created. Rosier says “the little girl had nothing, no scar, nothing. My initial reaction was simply that we needed to make this widely available as quickly as possible, the effect both physically and emotionally on burns victims is staggering”.
