Jo Gilberd, a former UK beauty industry veteran, met Karen Yang, who at the time headed up a business exporting manuka honey products to China and South Korea, at a health and beauty conference in New Zealand. Together they quickly identified a gap in the market for natural luxury skincare. The ladies felt that we all need to lead calmer and more contemplative lives and began to develop Syrene. In 2019 Syrene Skincare was named ‘one to watch’ by Deloitte’s Fast 50 list of New Zealand’s fastest-growing companies, which is quite the accolade.
