When it comes to food, we all check the label before we buy something, right? Calories, carbs, sugar – it’s all essential reading for the health-conscious bYoutician.
If it’s full of E numbers, dodgy food dyes, and a dollop of monofructose sodium trinitrotoluene then it goes straight back on the shelf. So why then, are we not as vigilant with our beauty products?
Just to prove the point, I left the safety of the Project bYouty office and headed into the domain of the adjacent Men’s lifestyle division to see what grooming products I could find, and as expected, the labels made for some quite shocking reading.
You’d think a vitamin mist spray would be pretty much natural, yeah?
Well, the one fermenting away on a friend’s desk has an ingredients list so long, the only way they could fit it on the bottle was to make the words microscopic. I’m not joking. Even with my phone camera fully zoomed in on it, the label is still difficult to read. It would appear that we have 90 words, explaining 27 ingredients, some of which are genuinely worrying. Acrylic Acid/ Acrylamidomethyl Propane Sulfonic Acid Copolymer (yes, it’s real) doesn’t sound like something that I want to be sprayed on my face.
Here at Project bYouty, we care about what’s written on labels.
Our rule is simple, if we can’t spell it, we won’t sell it, so you can be assured, your skin’s safe with us.
